It's riddim hours

Riddim, around here, means the repetitive, half-time, wonky stuff that you feel in your chest more than you count. It's not for everybody, and that's fine. The people who love it really love it, and you can usually spot them before the set even starts: they're the ones who moved closer to the speakers when everybody else went to get water.

This collection is the shirts that say so out loud, for the late-night set when the room gets weird and nobody wants it to stop. The designs are the strange ones: a chiropractor who loves riddim, girls making riddim, wonky-ass music, an itch only one sound can scratch, a cat who likes the weird stuff, and a plain request to give me weird music. Every one of them is drawn for Raverr, with a big graphic on the back so the people behind you get the joke, and a small piece on the chest.

I've been going to dark rooms with big sound systems since the early-'90s underground warehouse parties, when nothing was official and you heard about the party from a friend of a friend. The genres changed a dozen times since then. The part I go for didn't: the weird music, played loud, for a room full of people who came for exactly that.

New to riddim?

Start with what is riddim, then read what to wear to a dubstep show. The short version: a light tee for the floor, earplugs, broken-in closed-toe shoes, and a hoodie for the line and the walk out. I've gone from sweating to freezing at many shows, and the walk out is where a real hoodie earns its spot. If you're planning to be in the front with your neck doing the work, the headbanger pile is right next door.

Fit and fabric

The hoodies are Cotton Heritage M2580 fleece pullovers. They run small, so size up if you want room to move or layer. The tees come in a light cut for a hot room and a heavier one for the campground and every day after.
